The Rugby Memorabilia Society were very pleased and proud to have been asked by former Wales and Lions second row Allan Martin to auction his extensive collection of memorabilia for him.

We auctioned the memorabilia over several months, geared around the distribution of our bi-monthly newsletter.

Allan was very keen to make sure the memorabilia from his extensive playing career goes to genuine collectors and not to those who will sell them on at a profit. Items were auctioned with an understanding that they were not being bought with the purpose of selling on to someone else.

This auction was open to collectors not in the Rugby Memorabilia Society. Anyone could make a bid.

Each item was auctioned with the item going to the highest bidder FOR THE VALUE OF THEIR BID.

It was a SEALED BID auction. All bids must be for clear values and to exclude postage. "50p more than the next highest" is NOT an acceptable bid.

July's headline item was Allan's British Lions shirt - it raised £675 !!

The September star item - Andy Haden's All Blacks shirt raised £2,100

Allan Jeffrey Martin

Aberavon, Barbarians, Wales, British Lions. 34 caps for Wales, 1 cap for the British Isles

This is what was written about Allan in the 1991 book "Who's Who of Welsh International Rugby Players" by Auty, Jenkins & Pierce:

Allan Martin, a qualified school teacher, shares with Robert Norster the honour of being Wales' most capped lock. A company representative, he made three tours with Wales: to Canada in 1973, the Far East in 1975, and Australia in 1978. He played in thirteen games for the British Isles in New Zealand in 1977 and, in South Africa three years later, he made eight appearances for the British visitors. In May 1979 he toured South Africa with Surrey. He captained Aberavon in 1981-82. He is the brother-in-law of Les Keen. His son Steven has played for the Welsh Schools XV.
